Global Warming BS!
Following is an article from Ken Ring's fantastic website called Predict Weather I recommend you check it out. He is a highly respected and brilliant mathatican.
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H L Mencken Al Gore’s film. Al Gore travels the world showing his film. Is it because he loves people and loves the environment? Or is there is a more personal reason, aligned to something even more wonderful, more precious, dearer to Mr Gore's heart..Could it be..money. Money makes the world go around and at $120,000 per lecture Mr Gore goes around the world making money. We do love being scared or we wouldn’t pay to go on ferris wheels, read suspense thrillers, or agree to blind dates. Gore's film was frightening - especially the mistruths. 1922 was the hottest on record ever recorded. ref: http://www.gsfc.nasa.gov/scienceques2001/20020524.htm being 136 F at Al' Aziziyah, Libya in September 1922. 1916 was as warm as it is today. Clearly this is an inconvenient truth. Can we find more? Gore claims that the 10 hottest years on record have been recently, but even the IPCC says since 1998 the globe has been cooling. If we were getting hotter then each year just gone should have been the hottest yet. The thermometer was only invented some 300-yrs ago and put to regular meteorological use 150 years ago. It is still unclear whether this 4-billion year old world is suuposed to be in a heating or a cooling phase. After about half a billion years we might have a clearer picture as to what the surface is doing. We know the interior of the globe is still cooling after its fiery birth 4 billion years ago. The inconvenient truth about the place I live, Auckland, NZ is that it has not been warming. Albert Park Station (Station A64871) shows maximum and minimum temperature data beginning 1/1/30 and going until 15/12/84. Anyone can buy this as I did. Over those 54 years, the average maximum temp is 19degC and average minimum 12degC. Cutting this in half to see any change, the first 27 years shows an average maximum of 19degC and average minimum of 12degC. The next 27 years is exactly the same. Check these figures. So no temperature change at all in Auckland over 54 years according to our own scientists, and this covers the so-called post-war industrial period, when more CO² was supposedly put into the air from factory emissions. Albert Park stopped continous gathering in 1984 and from then until 1990 daily recording was sporadic. However, there is a little period of two years where another bunch of uninterrupted data occurs, 1988 -1989, and the maximum and minimum averages over this two year period is again 19C and 12C. That was Albert Park, in the middle of the city. I have since seen averages for Auckland being quoted as 21degC for max and 14degC for min over the past 20 years, so obviously this is from data collected at a different station, either at the newer Mangere airport or at Mechanics Bay, and so it cannot be considered. It would be very weird if one part of Auckland showed a warming supposedly representative of a warming globe, whilst temperatures in Albert Park warming more than anywhere else from more asphalt, reflective glass and exhaust fumes, stayed constant through 60 years of the city's growth. A very inconvenient truth. In Gore's film, much is made of a chart with the CO² and the world’s temperatures fitting together almost perfectly with graphs that go back hundreds of thousands of years using ice data, irrefutable photographic records of ice shelves melting, and computer generated images of major cities including New York and the World Trade Centre being inundated with water…etc. but it is all computer extrapolation. Convenient but not the truth. Naturally they will choose graphs that fit together perfectly, they are making a movie, and it is Hollywood. The same models when run forwards fail to predict current weather. Much attention is directed at a CO² graph starts at 350ppm and rises alarmingly to 380ppm. Er.. how about starting the 'y' axis at zero, as a graph is supposed to do. Then the CO² rise, which is only an increase of 30 parts per million, would appear insignificant. 30 ppm is actually tiny. It is 3 parts in 10,000. In a room of normal height, about 3m from floor to ceiling, 30ppm is a tenth of a mm, about the thickness of an A4 sheet of paper lying on the floor, or a human hair. That is the % effect from the industrial human race putting gases into the atmosphere, and it is negligible. Mr Gore’s film is a party political broadcast and a poorly researched docomentary starring a failed politician trying to invent fear by manufacturing evidence. The truth is that at the time of Gore's political life, he and Enron stitched up the Kyoto Protocol as a reveue-gathering mechanism based on a giant scam that CO² was a pollutant. The US Congress knew it was a scam and wanted no part of the Kyoto Protocol. Gore mentions his family - his sister died of lung cancer, his son had an accident, and his father either raised Angus bulls, grew tobacco or spent his days in Congress - it was hard to tell exactly which, but it is supposed to convince us he is a caring person. But the caring stops there, because then come the waves of blame - any extreme weather is all our fault. After seeing his movie one is left wondering if nature is responsible for anything. Gore is no better than hell-fire and brimstone religious bullies who come to your nearest town, put up a tent, berate you for your sinning, take money as donations for "the cause" (the Al Gore Fund) and run off with suitcases bulging. Gore is a dangerous terror-ist. If it is left to him, every industry that burns any fuel, which means run an engine, will be taxed, and this will strangle the life out of any industrial economy. What a victory for the world he wasn’t elected. The NZ government agrees with him but will not do anything, because saying you will tackle climate change will get you elected, but pocketing carbon taxes won't. Meanwhile Gore travels the world in gas-guzzling jets, delivering night time slide shows which burn electricity, whilst telling us all to do the opposite. As you leave the theatre they give out packets of Eco-Soap Powder, one sachet per person, for your washing machine. Apparently using that is going to change the climate. Another inconvenient truth is that a warmer world would be a better world. It would cause more evaporation from the seas which would fix droughts and provide more clean water for the current populations who are going without. It would stop those millions of poor people dying from winter cold because they cannot afford the heating bills. It would allow access to and open up N Pole oilfield exploration which will reduce fears of a fossil fuel shortage. Further facts that are inconveniently true need to be pointed out by at least one of the skeptics that Gore does not believe exist any more. ( if there are no skeptics left because everyone believes climate change is happening, then why continue jetting around the world showing the film?). The facts are that the planet warmed until 1940, then cooled until around 1970 before warming again until 1998 -- producing a net warming of around 0.6 degrees. The Arctic was as warm or warmer in 1940. The Greenland ice sheet is actually growing. On average Greenland was warmer in the 1920s and 1930s than it is now. Polar bears have always migrated to land in late summer when sea ice naturally melts back, and then return to the ice when it re-freezes. They don't even seem to suffer being transferred to subtropical zoos. Polar bears were grizzlies 300,000 years ago and they all eat whatever they can find wherever they can find it. Another truth of inconvenience is that only 20,000 years ago [Simon's comment here - I believe it was only 4000+ years ago], great ice sheets covered much of North America and Europe; permanent glaciers were also present over southeastern Australia and Tasmania. The sea level was 130m lower than today and land bridges connected New Guinea and Tasmania with the Australian mainland. The earth has been warming to get back to the natural state that existed prior to the last glaciation. A further truth is that CO² is plant food. As a greenhouse gas, it is a spent force for climate change; its present concentration is less than 400 parts per million. 66 per cent of the greenhouse effect of CO² is caused by the first 50ppm. With each doubling of concentration, (from 50 to 100, then to 200 and 400ppm), the incremental advance of the greenhouse effect is reduced. Even for a further doubling to 800ppm, as projected by 2100 in the case of unabated fossil fuel usage, the increase in the greenhouse effect will only be 10 per cent of the present component attributable to CO². Overall, CO² is a relatively minor contributor to the greenhouse effect, which is dominated by the varying water vapour and clouds of the atmosphere. Therefore any increasing of the CO² concentration will have little additional effect. And there was as much CO² in the atmosphere about 11,000 years ago as there is today. Antarctica is not melting. The polar ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica are fundamentally stable. Temperatures remain below minus 10C during the brief summer. On 24 Dec 2006 the temp at the S Pole was -40C. On 24 Jan 2007 it was -30C. Less than a month later, 24 Feb, summer will be over and researchers will have left. How can ice possible melt at -30C? It is only at the lower elevations of the coastal margins that temperatures rise above freezing for a few months and the sun causes the usual melting at the edges. The highest height the sun ever reaches in the Antarctic summer, about 18deg above the horizon, can be likened to the midsummer sun at 4pm over Auckland. The Antarctic sun is simply not hot enough ever to melt everything there. Temperatures at the S pole have actually declined by more than 1degC since 1950. The area of sea ice around Antarctica has increased over past 20 yrs. The place is getting cooler. It is inconveniently true that Australia (except for the southwest corner) was wetter during the second half of the 20th century than during the first. Nor is the sea rising much if at all. The sea level has been rising at a rate of 1.8 mm per year for the past 8,000 years; the Australian National Tidal Facility at Tuvalu in 2002 reported: "The historical record from 1978 through 1999 indicated a sea level rise of 0.07 mm per year." Or the width of a hair. Plus, natural tidal heights over one cycle of 18.613 years always vary by a few feet. Then there's the poor old coral reefs. Warmer water is supposed to indicate that they are dying. But the reefs have been around for over 500 million years. They have survived through long periods with much higher temperatures and atmospheric CO² concentrations than are around today. It is important for us to become better informed about global warming, how much of it is natural versus manmade, when there are fraudsters and scammers such as Al Gore that play on our fears for their own profit. I recommend that people don’t see it and that they spend the $15 or whatever the movie ticket costs, on more gas for their SUV and go for a big long burn, before Gore and his fanatical friends make them all get bikes. The inconvenient truth is that climate scientists need research funding to put meals on the table. Science reality today is that climate scientists will make up any fanciful scenario about the end of the world coming, and that keeps the funds rolling in. Finally..the main inconvenient truth is that Al Gore's visit to NZ coincided with an initiative by him to present his business plan to his handpicked invited audience of business high flyers. In 2004 Gore founded, (along with David Blood the former chief of Goldman Sachs) Generation Investment Management, a multlmillion dollar environmental global investment scheme which he fronts. The firm, controlling $750 million dollars, levies a fee to companies which want to belong. Longterm investments are based on climate sustainability assets, and include pension schemes like the NZ Superannuation Fund. Assessment is linked to investment performance on a rolling three-year basis and rewards are assessed every three years for good performance. While in NZ, Gore met with Paul Dyer, NZ Superannuation Fund Chief Investment Officer. Coicidence? Read about Gore's tidy little earner here. http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/28075/story.htm So no, Gore was not here to talk about global warming. His important business meeting was reported in a small article in the business section near the back of the NZ Herald. The movie message and grim warnings about imminent global catastrophe were all over the front page. Gore's business is the marketing of a very lucrative convenient lie. ----------------------------------------------------- How will we know when global warming arrives? If global warming were to occur, there would be several indicators. The obvious would be rising temperatures, both maximums and minimums, in all seasons for all places. This has not been noticed and the latest estimate of three thousandths of a degree per year reported over the whole globe by the IPCC has not yet been incorporated into all areas. If the temperature rose by half a degree per century it would not be noticed. Even half a degree rise right now would not be detectable. The second would be the increase in seawater temperature the world over. This has not happened that we know of. The next would be a dramatic increase in precipitation in essentially all parts of the world, not just a few. With warmer sea temps, there would be greater evaporation and thus more rain and snow, everywhere. Deserts would become steppes. Steppes would become forest. Boreal forests would become rainforest. This hasn’t happened in the centuries since the industrial revolution began. Another indication would be more vegetation all of which thrives on CO2, heat, and the extra humidity that would increase under a warmer atmosphere. The flow-on effect will be more insects, birds and fish than ever before, in short, less species becoming extinct. This has not been noticed. Countries to the far north and far south would say a permanent goodbye to cold winters and hello to tropical trees and shrubs. Figs could be grown in Invercargill. This has so far not happened. There would not be any country showing a cooling trend at all. The next to be noticed would be sealevel dropping everywhere due to the increased evaporation. The resulting greater precipitation would also cause a build-up of icesheets over both poles and surrounding regions, dropping the sealevel even more. The approximately 25 million people currently classified as being environmental refugees will begin marching, catching planes, trains and buses out of towns. So far no one has noticed any mass exodus. This mass migration is projected to rise to 150 million by 2050 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is 8,000 per day starting from now, on top of the holidaymakers and business travellers already taking to international skies. As a result, airline bookings may become scarcer very soon. Australian climate scientist Dr Graeme Pearman has predicted that a 2°C rise in temperature would place 100 million people 'directly at risk from just coastal flooding' by 2100. The problem is where they are going to go to, as they cannot get off the globe and wherever they do end up they will presumably have to join the exodus leaving their new country. Geographical confusion will thus be rife, with people endlessly queuing at airports both upon landing and upon reboarding. This will be fairly easy to spot because everyone will be living at the airport. The next global warming indication will be the arrival of malaria and dengue fever. These are carried by special mosquitos. Look for when the mozzies around the pool look odd and sound different. Finally, look for when the Aboriginal people pack up and move south from the Northern Territories. So far not one of them has commented about any global catastrophe. And who live in the very hottest part of Australia? And who are still happy to be there? In fact, Al Gore, if you want an expert idea on whether or not the globe is warming, forget your wellpaid scientist who, as my father used to say, wouldn't know shit from a shilling. Go and ask an Australian Aboriginal.
